Leather District

The Leather District grew out of the Industrial Era at the end of the 19th and early 20th centuries. When manufacturing jobs went overseas, it left the red brick warehouses and factories empty. Due to a recent resurgence of growth in Boston, the Leather District is being renovated into blocks of upscale condominiums, lofts, and artist studios. Located in a large area between Essex, Atlantic, Albany, and Stuart Streets, you will find artisanal coffee shops, unique boutiques, and eclectic restaurants that reflect the growing diversity of the neighborhood. The northern corner is marked by South Station, a major transportation hub for rail and busses.
