Celebrating the Symphonic Legacy of Wayne Shorter

Conducted by Clark Rundell, featuring vocalist and bassist Esperanza Spalding, pianist Leo Genovese, drummer Terri Lyne Carrington, and saxophonist Dayna Stephens, this event presents an all-Wayne Shorter program. The repertoire includes "Forbidden, Plan-It!", "Orbits", "Midnight in Carlotta’s Hair", excerpts from ...(Iphigenia), "Causeways", and "Gaia", a piece for jazz quartet and orchestra.

This concert pays homage to the remarkable life and contributions of the jazz luminary Wayne Shorter, who passed away in March 2023. Among the performers are five esteemed collaborators of Shorter making their BSO debuts, notably the Grammy Award-winning artist Esperanza Spalding. Notably, Spalding authored the libretto for Shorter’s opera ...(Iphigenia), premiered in Boston in 2021, drawing inspiration from the ancient Greek tragedy by Euripides.

Supported by Tom Kuo and Alexandra DeLaite, the concert takes place on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at 7:30 PM EDT and Saturday, March 23, 2024, at 8:00 PM EDT.
